Almost always where the epithet El Shaddai (or Shaddai alone) occurs, it is in poetic texts as a parallel to either Yahweh or Elohim (e.g., Num. 24:4, 16; Job 5:17; 6:4, 14; 8:3, 5; 11:7; 13:3; passim in Job; Ps. 91:1; Isa. 13:6). Its other uses carry little or no special theological import (Ruth 1:20–21; Ps. 68:14; Ezek. 1:24; 10:5; Joel 1:15).
